Using horseback riding and horsemanship, the Hooves on the Horizon program provides therapy and recreation opportunities to children
and youth who have a diverse range of physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities. Experiences with a horse can positively
affect a person's life. Horseback riding can improve a rider's strength, balance, postural control, muscle tone, coordination
and motor skills. While riding, one can also make gains in sensory processing, confidence, and emotional well-being, as well
as communication, cognitive development and ability to focus, among other things.
Lesson are taught in a private or small group
format, by a teacher who is trained in North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) methods.
Our facilities
include an indoor arena so lessons can continue all during the year.
For more information about therapeutic riding, visit the
NARHA website at
www.narha.org.
As our program is just getting started, we have only a
few pictures of therapy sessions. So, included in our
slideshow are some
pictures of children having fun
during a Ranch Experience day, since we do some of
the same activities on
those days. Click on the
slideshow link below to see some pictures of our
"horsing around".
